Frequently Asked Questions

Please let me know if there is something else you would like to know by using our connect with me page.

My Cherish products are handmade by myself and my beautiful friend Sonya in my little studio in Rockhampton.

While the majority of my jewellery is handmade, I do have a small range of high quality sterling silver bangles and rings from trusted Australian suppliers that align with my quality, ethics and style.

All of the handmade leather products are made by Moy Leather and Cloth from gorgeous Tasmania.

All timber signs and products are handmade by Drift Away Designs in Rockhampton.

If you have any questions about out products please feel free to reach out to us.

Generally once a month the Cherish stall is set up at the Artisans of CQ Markets at the Rockhampton Showgrounds. I also attend some other larger events during the year.

To keep up to date, please check out my market page.

I always use quality sterling silver, vermeil, freshwater pearls, gemstones, timber, resin and crystals in my designs.

All of my earrings are made with sterling silver and vermeil findings.

Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) jewellery is a high-quality type of gold-plated jewellery made by electro-plating sterling silver with a thick layer of real gold, usually 22kt or 24kt gold.

To be classified as vermeil, the base metal must be 925 sterling silver, and the gold plating is usually at least 2.5 microns thick, making it more durable and longer-lasting than typical gold plated jewellery.

Vermeil jewellery offers the look and feel of solid gold at a more reasonable price.

With proper care, vermeil jewellery can maintain its beauty for many years, making it ideal for both everyday wear and special occasions.

Yes! All of my earrings are made using sterling silver or vermeil findings.

Sterling Silver is considered a hypoallergenic material so it is suitable for people with sensitive ears.

For all jewellery, there are few general tips to keep it at it's best.

  • Always add your jewellery last when getting ready and take it off first when unwinding for the day.
  • Exposure to water, chemicals, perfumes etc will damage most jewellery so remove before showering, swimming or cleaning. It is also recommended to remove before sleeping too.
  • Store your jewellery separately in soft material pouches or similar, and away from moisture.

For specific tips on each type of material, please see the list below.

Sterling Silver and Vermeil Gold Jewellery

  • Clean gently with a soft silver/gold cloth. Do not rub the vermeil jewellery vigorously as this can wear away the plated layer.
  • Sterling silver jewellery can be cleaned with a liquid jewellery cleaner. This is especially good for intricate designs.

Freshwater Pearls

  • Freshwater pearls are delicate so please make sure you do not spray perfume or chemicals near them. This will destroy their natural nacre.
  • Always put your pearl jewellery on last and take it off before showering as the silk thread is natural and will stretch when wet making it more likely to break.
  • Clean pearls with a damp soft cloth after each use and store separately in a soft pouch.
  • Pearls if worn frequently may need restringing after time as silk naturally stretches with continued use. This is a perfect time to have your pearls cleaned. I do a full restringing/cleaning service if required.

Gemstones

  • Clean gemstones with a soft cloth.
  • Gemstones are generally quite sturdy but they will chip and break if dropped onto a hard surface.
  • Keep away from harsh chemicals and perfumes.

Timber

  • Keep timber away from prolonged moisture.

Resin

  • Resin is very sturdy but can sometimes break when dropped.
  • Clean with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and to give it a little more shine you can use a little oil (olive, coconut etc) and buff on with a soft cloth.

At Cherish I try to make it easy for you to choose the correct ring size.

All of my rings are US sizes but please see my ring sizer chart to convert into other measurements, including Australia and UK.

I have included a ring measuring pdf for you to print, cut out and measure your own ring size if you do not know your size. Please remember that when looking at wide bands it is advisable to go up a size than what a regular band size would be.

If you choose the wrong size and would like to exchange, please message me. If it is a ring I no longer have available I'm happy to exchange for a different size or style or refund if necessary. Please see my refund policies for all relevant information.

Yes! I love to gift wrap my Cherish purchases.

Whether it is for a birthday, thank you or something more special, please let me know in the comments when ordering. I'm also happy to include a gift card with message if you require.

Of course my gift wrapping is part of my service and is completely FREE!

I pride myself on creating sturdy pieces of jewellery that stand up to being worn everyday but I understand that sometimes jewellery can break or be broken (I have even guillotined my own necklace before!)

If something happens to your Cherish jewellery please message me and let me know.

I will happily fix anything that I can, even if you have owned it for years. To make sure your happiness is guaranteed, your first fix on an item is completely free! If you happen to own it a very long time and it has broken more than once (usually thread that deteriorates after time), a small charge will be applied to fix it again.

Yes! I can fix other jewellery.

To fix other brands of jewellery, I will need to make an assessment to see if it can be fixed and whether it is something I can fix. Please message me and send me detailed photos of where it is broken and what needs to be done.

Restringing of Pearls

I can usually restring all pearls. All of my pearls are hand knotted on silk thread and if I do a restring this is how it will be completed regardless of how the item was completely initially.

Costing of Fixing

I charge a rate of $40 an hour or part thereof for any fixing of jewellery plus costings of any materials that are used to complete.

All of my parcels are sent through Australia Post with tracking. If you have a larger order, you can opt to add signature on delivery to ensure a parcel is not left unattended. Please select this at checkout.

Once I have posted your parcel, you will receive a tracking number through Australia Post.

Unfortunately, once a parcel is sent Cherish Jewellery Designs is not responsible for any lost parcels through Australia Post. However, we will endeavour to help as much as possible to retrieve the parcel in collaboration with Australia Post.
